The verdict is in. The Cleanaway Bio-Insert works brilliantly to reduce green organic waste on the kerbside in Australian conditions.
Bio-Inserts are a much more effective way of collecting green organics on the kerbside, compared to standard MGBs which are currently in use in many municipalities around Australia. Bio-Inserts don't just contain the waste, they reduce it! Saving money in collection, landfill and processing costs.
In April 2001, an in-depth laboratory study comparing the Bio-Insert to the standard MGB for green waste collection was conducted by the Institute of Horticultural Development (IHD).
The IHD concluded: The Bio-Insert supplies adequate ventilation for aerobic decomposition and drying of the added organic materials.
Significantly higher rates of weight loss are observed with the Bio-Insert in winter, spring and summer compared to the standard bin. Lower average weights of green organics collected per household can mean significant savings for kerbside collection services.
The contents of the Bio-Insert bin are less compacted, drier and more uniform than the contents of the standard bin. In the standard bin, the lower layers of green organics were especially dense, wet and putrid. The better condition of the green organics collected in the Bio-Insert should cause fewer problems for compost facility operators receiving the feedstock.
A collection frequency of 4 weeks is now an option for green organics. If food organics are also collected, a 2-week collection frequency is recommended to prevent the build-up of potential leachate and odours.
The IHD study results shows that the Bio-Insert is a far superior method of collecting green organics than standard MGB systems.
