How Cleanaway's food organics service works
Our industry-leading food and beverage waste recycling service diverts waste from landfill and beneficially reuses up to 99% of materials by composting and using innovative technologies such as waste-to-energy. Organic waste from food processing are turned into high quality composts, premium soils, soil conditioners and potting mixes and packaging like aluminium and cardboard are recycled wherever possible.
For food manufacturers and supermarkets where food waste is inevitable and often in bulk, our depackaging technology is a leap forward for reducing waste to landfill. We take large volumes of food or liquid packaged in aluminium, plastic, liquid paperboard or cardboard and separate the organic material to be recycled.
Expired, damaged or mislabelled food products were previously destined for landfill because extracting the organic waste from the packaging was too difficult or inefficient can now be recovered with our secure product destruction service that safely disposes of your branded products with total confidentiality.
We also offer dedicated recycling bins for food waste perfect for smaller businesses with unpackaged food waste streams.
Key recovery technology: Food depackaging
Our food depackaging technology (available in select locations) allows us to take large amounts of food or liquids packed in aluminium, plastic, liquid paperboard and cardboard and separate the organic material for recycling. Up to 99% of the material can be recovered with this process.
Key recovery technology: Secure organic product destruction
We can collect and transport organic products from your doorstep to our facilities safely, securely and in compliance with all local laws and regulations, without compromising your commercial intellectual property and confidentiality.
Key recovery facility: South East Organics Facility
Our South East Organics Facility (SEOF) in Dandenong South is a state-of-the-art facility that sorts, decontaminates, and shreds more than 100,000 tonnes of Food Organics and Green Organics (FOGO) waste every year from kerbside FOGO collections across South East Melbourne.
