“I grew up in Terang and my family owned an egg farm, which had over 300,000 chickens. I spent my childhood helping my dad on the farm and learning everything there is to know about eggs – some would say I am an “Eggspert”.

Frank “The Tank” Milroy recently joined our Warrnambool team as Operations Supervisor, bringing his decades of experience working in and around farms, including an 11-year stint as tanker driver and transport scheduler in Allansford.

“In my role as lead scheduler I was in charge of over 500 farm pickups, a fleet of 50 milk tankers and 80 drivers. I have always had a passion for the transport industry and have developed along the way to enjoy the logistics side of this industry.” Frank explained about his background.

When asked what brought him to Cleanaway, Frank said, “I was looking for the next challenge in my career which would offer a better work life balance for myself and my young family. Cleanaway has so far been a step in the right direction!”

Frank quickly settled in with the team at Warrnambool, “My first impression of the team was that they were like a little close knit family. They were all so friendly, kind and seemed genuinely excited to meet me. I was very excited that I had cake and coffee for morning tea on my first day.”

As Operations Supervisor, each day starts with its own set of unique challenges that keeps Frank on his toes – just the way he likes it.

“My day starts with a coffee and morning briefing with Branch Manager Carl Moloney, where we set our goals for the day. Carl and I went to secondary school together in Noorat, I would never have thought we would both end up working together all these years later.”

“I then go through the pre-starts, checking drivers and truck maintenance updates. I then do a general check of the facilities and chat with the staff at the transfer station to check if there are any issues.”

“I like to check in with everyone face-to-face and build on the working relationships with the team. The day can involve many tasks including booking jobs, problem solving bin issues, truck issues, sourcing parts and products, the list goes on and on!” said Frank.

Frank enjoys the diversity of his role, the people around him and managing the sheer volume of waste collected. He encourages people to join the waste industry which Frank describes as an ever-evolving industry that can provide a vast range of career opportunities.

Frank’s point is well illustrated by the Warrnambool team’s recent efforts to increase recycling in the area. When they saw the volume of milk bottles used by cafes and shops, the team introduced a dedicated collection run for milk bottles alone, which meant a single stream of clean bottles sent for recycling and a lighter commingled recycling bin for business owners.

The team have also encouraged local businesses to recycle their cardboard through a dedicated bin by providing an incentive on rates.

Outside of work, Frank is a family man with three children aged 9, 7 and 4. He enjoys gardening, travelling, swimming, golf, cooking, mountain biking, tennis and spending time with his family. Frank can also be seen at the Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Club where he is the committee’s club treasurer.

“She’ll be right is the way I lead my life, meaning it is what is and don’t stress the small stuff.”
