Cleanaway’s Wetherill Park is a used lubricating oil refining facility located in Wetherill Park, New South Wales, Australia. The facility recycles and processes waste oil in a closed loop, reusing it as a precious resource.

The used oil re-processing in Wetherill Park reduces Australia’s reliance on virgin crude oil. Used lubricating oil collection and re-processing produces a variety of oils which are used across many different applications:

• Light natural – this is sent to our Rutherford facility for final treatment and sale as lube oil. Light natural makes up around 68% of total waste oil
• Heavy gas oil – similar to diesel, it is used for power station products. Heavy gas oil constitutes approximately 6% of total waste oil
• Heavy neutral – this oil is sold to power stations as heavy fuel and accounts for around 2% of total waste oil
• Residue – sold to power stations, similar to heavy fuel and makes up approximately 18% of total waste oil
• Leight ends – similar to petrol, some of which is exported. Constitutes around 6% of total waste oil.

Our facility re-refines used lubricating oil for reuse, which is different from recycling oil. Oil recycling is a simple process where used lubricating oil is filtered and dried. On the other hand, used lubricating oil re-refining is a more complicated process whereby the collected oil is passed through many stages. Finally in the fractionation column, the oil is broken down into different products, including the original product.
