Packaged food organics recovery
Cleanaway Willawong is home to a sophisticated new food waste and packaged organics recovery plant. This plant features organics depackaging technology similar to the technology used in our South East Organics Facility (SEOF).
This technology can help commercial customers improve their sustainability rates by separating organic material from packaging, recovering material that would have otherwise been sent to landfill.
Key features
Our food depackaging technology can process a wide variety of every day items, including but not limited to:
- Bakery items wrapped in plastic
- Canned food and drinks
- Fruits and vegetables
- Dairy products
- Boneless red meat
- Pet food
- Biscuits, chips and confectionary
- Beverages including tea, coffee and juice
The organic material is turned into nutrient rich compost and soil conditioners. Water produced from this process will be reused within the plant.
How we do it
Packaged food and liquid organic waste are loaded into the food packaging unit. It will then travel to a separation chamber that will remove organic material from its contents. This results in a “porridge” of organic material, ready to be composted.
