If there’s anyone who can prove that being an accountant isn’t boring, it’s Alfio Auteri.
Alfio was recently named Winner for Service Champion – Internal in Cleanaway’s Star Awards, which recognises and rewards our most dedicated team members helping to make a sustainable future possible.
This recognition has every bit to do with his attitude towards his role, which he has proudly made his own.
What’s worth doing, is worth doing differently
Although Alfio admits that traditional accounting is known to be “monotonous and repetitive”, as he candidly puts it, he’s inclined to push the limits of his role as a number cruncher.
“I get a lot of joy out of streamlining our processes and finding more efficient solutions for the business.” said Alfio.
“There are many examples of how I have delivered wins for the business through this approach. This includes assisting with inventory accounting for municipal bins, revamping reports for our weekly management pack, setting up regional balance sheets, and developing a tool to assist with budgeting and forecasting.”

Why doing more matters
Alfio will be celebrating his third year with Cleanaway in March. In this relatively short time with the company, he has already made a lasting impression with his NSW Solids colleagues by going beyond the call of duty.
“My favourite part about working with Cleanaway is that I’m given the opportunity to participate in ad hoc assignments, while working alongside and being guided by a professional and knowledgeable team.”
“This in turn has enabled me to showcase my strengths and provide further value to Cleanaway.”
As an accountant, however, Alfio understands that transactions remain the focus of his daily tasks.
“My role as an accountant is all about ensuring the transactions we engage in every day are recorded correctly, in full and on time so that our financial results accurately reflect what is happening in the business.”
“The other key areas of my role are creating and interpreting financial reports, analysing data, and providing information to assist with key business decisions to improve our efficiency and effectiveness.”

How it feels like to win
“It’s a huge honour to be named a winner, especially considering the exceptional calibre of employees at Cleanaway. The Star Awards is something I value very highly and I’m extremely appreciative to be acknowledged for my work.” said Alfio.
“I’m very lucky to be part of such an accomplished, conscientious and supportive team. I truly believe that this is a major driver as to what motivates me every day.”
