Understanding Waste Types

We provide services including sorting, collecting, transporting, treating, processing, and disposing of various waste types that we receive from you.

Below is an explanation of the different waste types referenced in your agreement with us:

Types of waste

1. General Waste

Solid waste, including putrescible and non-putrescible materials, excluding any waste that falls into another waste type category.

2.C&D Waste

Waste generated from construction, renovation, or demolition activities, including but not limited to concrete, bricks, timber, metal, plasterboard, and other building materials.

3.Recyclable Waste

Waste materials such as cardboard, paper, metal, or plastic that can be recovered at a materials recovery facility in Australia for beneficial reuse or recycling, that is not Organic Waste.

4.Organic Waste

Biodegradable waste derived from natural sources, including green waste (such as grass clippings, leaves, and branches), food waste (such as fruit and vegetable scraps), and other plant-based materials.

5.Medical Waste

Waste generated from hospitals, clinics, medical facilities, abattoirs, or similar practices.

6.Liquid Waste

Liquid or semi-liquid waste, excluding any waste that falls into another waste type category.

7.Regulated Waste

Waste that requires analysis, classification, or specific pre-approval by us or under law, including but not limited to contaminated soils, hazardous waste, asbestos, controlled or restricted or radioactive or toxic waste. Waste assigned a NEPM (National Environment Protection Measures) code is classified as Regulated Waste. Where waste falls under both Regulated Waste and another waste type, it will be deemed Regulated Waste.

Why this matters

It’s important for both you and us to have a clear understanding of the waste being handled to ensure transparency and manage expectations.

  • Accurate Pricing & Service Provision – We price and provide our services—including sorting, collecting, transporting, treating, processing, and disposing of waste—based on our understanding of the relevant Waste Type. If the actual waste differs from what was agreed, it may require different handling, which could affect pricing and service availability.
  • Avoid Unexpected Charges – You are responsible for ensuring that the waste we handle matches the agreed Waste Type and does not exceed the allowed weight or volume. If the waste differs from what was agreed, we may need to take additional steps to manage it safely and in compliance with regulations, which could result in extra charges. READ MORE
  • Compliance with Your Agreement – You warrant that the waste we handle corresponds to the Waste Type and description set out in your agreement with us. This ensures compliance with legal and operational requirements and helps avoid delays or disruptions.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance – Different waste types require different handling, treatment, and disposal methods to meet environmental and regulatory obligations. Ensuring that waste is classified correctly helps protect people, the environment, and operational efficiency.
