Comprehensive FOGO solutions for councils and households

FOGO, also known as food organics and garden organics, is one of the largest components of waste in the general waste bin. Approximately 50% to 70% of the general waste bin consists of this renewable resource. By removing this resource from the kerbside bin, we can reduce waste sent to landfill and create a beneficial closed loop for organic material.

The Australian Federal and State Governments have committed towards introducing a new kerbside recycling bin dedicated towards recycling FOGO by the end of 2023. While most organic materials can go in your FOGO bins, some locations may have restrictions based on available facilities.

FOGO FAQ 12 Days of FOGO

What happens to collected FOGO?

Your FOGO waste will be sent to a transfer station for sorting before heading to an organics facility. Organic waste is turned into compost through one of two methods; anaerobic digestion or windrow composting. This process can last anywhere from six weeks to three months. The anaerobic digestion method can also generate renewable energy during the composting process.

Once ready, the compost is processed to remove any contaminants and ensure it is safe to be used in your gardens and on agriculture soil. This creates an infinite closed loop that allows us to reuse and recycle food and garden waste.
